About Hoornlessen Utrecht

Welcome to Hoornlessen Utrecht, where a passion for music and joy in the learning process come together. Since September 2024 I have been offering lessons in Utrecht as a freelance horn teacher. My approach is aimed at developing a strong technical foundation, combined with musicality and creativity. Whether you are a beginner or want to improve your skills, my lessons are suitable for all ages and levels. Together we explore a wide range of musical styles, from classical to jazz and film music. The most important thing is that we enjoy the learning process and discover the diversity of the horn.

Technique forms the backbone of every successful horn player. At Hoornlessen Utrecht I place a strong emphasis on developing a solid technical foundation. This enables my students to express their musicality fully. I use the Penzel school for horn, a method known for its simplicity and effectiveness in building up the facial muscles and breathing techniques. Besides technique, I encourage my students to explore diverse styles and repertoire, so that they can develop into versatile musicians.

Methods for horn lessons

The Penzel school for horn is central to my lessons. This method places a strong emphasis on developing solid technique, essential for every horn player. Through simple but effective exercises, it helps to strengthen the facial muscles and to promote a healthy breathing technique.

Besides the Penzel school, I use other methods such as ‘Horen, Lezen, Spelen’, which are also focused on technique. These methods offer a structured approach to improving the basic skills and are ideal for beginners and advanced players alike.
